Knitting Kits

Three beautiful Knitting Kits in 5ply St Ayles Gansey wool created from fleece grown in Fife (Texel, Cheviot, Shetland and Blue Face Leicester), and spun by Uist Wool in the Hebrides to make a beautiful blend in a soft grey with bounce. Inspired by the patterns from the collection at the Scottish Fisheries Museum, each kit contains wool, special cotton printed bag, label and pdf pattern.

About the Project

Knitting the Herring seeks to capture, preserve and highlight the unique knitting heritage of coastal fishing communities of Scotland. Three knitting kits were created in collaboration with Uist Wool, Di Gilpin and Uist Yarn Studio to ensure traditional gansey patterns and techniques can continue to be used and enjoyed now and in the future. All proceeds from the knitting kits will go towards the future conservation, curation and activities to support the collection at the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
